Cool Buildings: Inside Out Summerhouse, Hvaler
Posted by admin in History and architecture on November 20, 2009
The Hvaler archipelago is a summer paradise, blessed with stunning scenery and home to thousands of hytter (summer houses). Most of them are built in a traditional style, although (don’t be fooled by the unassuming appearance) they are worth millions of kroner. A hytte that stands out from the other buildings in the area, however, is the one award-winning architect Reiulf Ramstad built for his family at Papper, on top of a hill overlooking the Oslofjord. Called Inside Out, it’s almost exclusively built of glass and wood, with the huge glass panels allowing the landscape to become an integral part of the house – hence the name. Not the best for privacy maybe, but absolutely stunning. Reiulf Ramstad Architects were also involved in the design of the Høgskolen i Østfold, the University College in Halden.
