The Norwegian flag
Posted by admin in History and architecture on May 16, 2010
This version of the flag dates back to 1821. The flag has a red background with a blue Nordic cross outlined in white that extends to the edges of the flag; it reflects the style of the Dannebrog (Danish flag), and Norway’s close ties with both Sweden and Denmark. The colours of the Norwegian flag are believed to have been influenced by the flags of France, the United States and Britain and stand for liberty, democracy and independence. The flag was designed by Fredrik Meltzer, a Norwegian businessman and politician from Bergen.
